Disney announced release dates for a number of upcoming films on Tuesday, and this includes the next Star Wars movies.
Disney has announced that a Star Wars movie previously set for December 2025 is now shifting to May 22, 2026. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this might be the new Star Wars film that brings back Daisy Ridley as Rey. Another Star Wars movie is set for release just five months later, coming December 18, 2026. Disney similarly did not say which movie this is.
Before these announcements, Disney previously confirmed that a different Star Wars movie is scheduled for December 17, 2027. That date is unchanged.
Disney recently announced multiple new Star Wars movies, including the Rey film from Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold are directing the other two recently announced films.
Beyond those, Taika Waititi is making his own new Star Wars movie, and Rian Johnson's trilogy still has a chance, it seems.
Disney has not released a new Star Wars movie since 2019's Rise of the Skywalker. Since then, the company has focused on Disney+ TV series like Andor, Obi-Wan, and The Book of Boba Fett.
Disney also recently announced that Avatar 3 is now coming December 2025, a delay of a full year from its previously scheduled premiere in December 2024. Additionally, Deadpool 3 moved up from November 2024 to May 2024.
