Featured in a new preview for Marvel's new Obi-Wan series, it's confirmed that General Grievous' galactic debut from Legends is official Star Wars canon again. Revealed through Obi-Wan Kenobi's recollections of the Clone Wars, the upcoming Obi-Wan #3 will be focused on a previously unseen battle that tested Kenobi's dueling roles as both Jedi and General. However, a brief reference to a past battle depicted in Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars cartoon confirms when Grievous' was first unleashed publically against the Republic and Jedi Order.
As seen in 2003's Clone Wars 2D animated series, General Grievous became a known threat to the Republic during the Battle of Hypori. Handpicked by Darth Sidious and Count Dooku to be the leader of the Separatist droid armies, Grievous was chosen for his brutality and tactical genius. Furthermore, he was trained in lightsaber combat by Count Dooku to effectively eliminate the Jedi generals of the Republic. During the Battle of Hypori, Grievous faced 7 Jedi simultaneously (including 2 Jedi Council members). Killing 4 Jedi and severely injuring the 3 who barely escaped with their lives, this epic reveal of the cyborg general became a non-canonical Legend along with the rest of Tartakovsky's Clone Wars in favor of Lucasfilm's 3D series from showrunner Dave Filoni.
