Despite rumours that the project had been cancelled altogether, it seems that Saber Interactive is still working on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.
Aside from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and (hopefully) Star Wars Outlaws, it's been a bit of a rough few years for games set in a galaxy far, far away. Not only did Respawn's rumoured Mandalorian game just get cancelled by EA, but one of the most anticipated games to come from the license, the Knights of the Old Republic remake, has been going through absolute development hell.
After being announced to lots of excitement from fans at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, things quickly started to look a bit turbulent, with Aspyr leaving the project and Saber Interactive taking over. Sony even ended up delisting the game's announcement trailer just a few months ago, which led to some insiders claiming that the game was likely never going to end up releasing.
Since then, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has claimed that a few developers at Saber Interactive are still working on the game, something that's been reported again in light of some business changes being made to the developer. That's hopefully good for Saber considering how much damage Embracer has done by shutting down countless studios and cancelling projects over the last few years, and it seems to be good news for the KOTOR remake as well.
Bloomberg reports that Saber "plans to continue developing a remake of Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic". It's not clear if Saber no longer being owned by Embracer will change that plan since it'd likely require some discussion with Disney behind the scenes, but it does at least show that the project isn't as dead as most of us thought that it was.
