EA and Respawn announced in January there would be a new Star Wars FPS, opening up the possibility of shining a light on an interesting but often overlooked character: Captain Panaka. Although there are no details yet about the upcoming game, Captain Panaka would be an excellent inclusion, as his story covers both the Clone Wars era and the Empire. Star Wars has countless characters whose backstories and histories would make brilliant storylines for games, and Panaka's is no exception.
Captain Panaka was first seen in the Star Wars universe in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, played by Ghanaian British actor Hugh Quarshie. He is head of security for Natalie Portman's Queen Padmé Amidala and aids the heroes throughout the movie. Although much of his expanded backstory and life was lost when Disney reorganized the Star Wars timeline, some aspects were kept and reintroduced as canon in the 2017 novel Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray.

Players would likely find Panaka a compelling character because of his complicated history that spans both sides of the franchise's major conflict between good and evil. Featuring Panaka in a new Star Wars FPS could allow fans to explore his amazing story and interact with a man who was seen as one of the few uncorrupted members of Palpatine's inner circle.
Born on the planet of Naboo, Quarsh Panaka was originally a member of the Republic Special Task Force before becoming the Head of Security for the Royal House of Naboo. Panaka first appears in Star Wars canon during the events of The Phantom Menace
