Star Trek’s Chief O’Brien actor, Colm Meaney, wants to work on a series centered on Worf. Meaney made his name among Star Trek fans for his portrayal of Chief O’Brien over the first six seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation as a supporting character, where he acted primarily as the Enterprise-D’s transporter chief. The character then made the move to the Star Trek spinoff show, Deep Space 9, where he continued to play the character for another six years. Over the course of Deep Space 9, Meaney’s character was fleshed out with more detail and quickly became one of the show’s leading stars.
Meaney stands alongside Michael Dorn, who portrayed the Klingon Starfleet officer Worf, as one of Star Trek’s most credited actors. Dorn starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation throughout the entirety of its seven-season run, before leaving the Enterprise-D to join Meaney on Deep Space 9 from its fourth season onwards. In addition to the two series, the actor reprised his role as the Klingon on the Star Trek: The Next Generation films despite his character no longer being aboard the ship with the rest of his co-stars. Dorn is the Star Trek actor with the most appearances, but Meaney comes in at a close second with 225 credits, falling short of Dorn’s impressive record of 282. Dorn has previously revealed that he had proposed a new Star Trek series focussing on Worf, which would see the actor add even more Star Trek appearances to his name, but his pitch hasn’t been picked up as of yet.
