The Star Ocean series might be getting another remaster.

A remaster (or remake?) of Star Ocean: The Second Story looks to be in the works after a logo for the unannounced game appeared on a Square Enix support page. The action-RPG originally launched in 1998 on the original PlayStation.
RPGsite.net spotted the logo--seen below but already removed by Square Enix--on this support center page. While the company hasn't previously mentioned anything about the game, there is precedent for remasters in the RPG franchise. For instance, Star Ocean: First Departure R released in 2019 on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It was an HD remaster of the PSP remake of the original Star Ocean.
So, Square Enix giving the same treatment to the second game in the Star Ocean series would make sense. However, nothing is official at this time. One particular aspect that RPGsite.net noted was The Second Story R might imply this unannounced game is based on the original PlayStation title and not the PSP remake with the subtitle Second Evolution.
In 2017, Square Enix released a remaster of Star Ocean: The Last Hope on PS4 and PC. This is the fourth installment in the series, which originally launched on Xbox 360. The last mainline entry in the RPG franchise came out last year with Star Ocean: The Divine Force.
For more on Square Enix, the company has put out a Final Fantasy XVI demo, with progress transferring to the full game when it launches June 22 on PS5.
