Spotify is giving more creators the ability to publish video podcasts.
The company started experimenting with the format in October 2021. "Visual interactions allow fans to get to know their favorite podcast hosts even better and allow creators to connect with their audiences in a much deeper way," Spotify says. So now anyone in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand can use the Anchor publishing tool Spotify acquired in 2019 to upload video podcasts to its platform.
Spotify isn't only making video podcasts available to more creators, however. The company says its embeddable player now supports this new format; that it's making subscriptions, interactive podcast features, and statistics available to video podcasts; and that Anchor is making it easier to replace audio-only episodes of existing podcasts with their video counterparts.
The company has also entered a new partnership with Riverside, which bills itself as "the easiest way to record podcasts and videos in studio quality from anywhere," thanks to its browser-based tools. Spotify says that "the integration enables creators to record and publish video content for free with Riverside with a quick distribution path to Spotify via Anchor."
"With this latest expansion, we’re continuing to make Video Podcasting a great experience for creators—empowering them to reach new global audiences, own how they monetize their content, and interact with fans in new ways," Spotify says. "There’s a massive opportunity for Video Podcasts on Spotify, and we can’t wait to see what creators bring to the table."
