Speedrunner Sets New Super Mario Bros. Blindfold Record
It doesn't matter whether a game is new, old, mainstream, or obscure, there will always be a few people out there who will challenge themselves to speedrunning it. While those that set records and find new tricks spend hours upon hours practicing, there are several video games that people can learn to speedrun for those who are interested in taking part. There are also those who go that extra distance and make it even more challenging by adding additional disadvantages for themselves, as one Super Mario Bros. player did.
Uploading the video to YouTube, runner Crescendo has managed to defeat the classic Nintendo game in a world record time of 6:25. The most impressive thing about this is they managed to do it while completely blindfolded. While they stopped the clock at 6:28, the timer on the video shows that they defeated Bowser a few seconds beforehand. The Super Mario Bros. run has been posted on Speedrun.com as well, which means it's likely been verified. The runner says they also used an original NES console in order to reduce input lag, especially in world 8-2.
New Speedrun World Record for Mario 64 Has Been Achieved
This is also not the first time they have achieved something like this. Last summer, Crescendo beat Mario Bros with a time of 11:25, which was a record at the time, and again was done without being able to see. According to the description underneath the latest video, this is their fourth time speedrunning the game while wearing a blindfold and the fourth time they've set a new world record. The next step, it seems, is to see if the game can be run in less than six minutes.
