Animal Crossing: New Horizons' success depends on the uniqueness and longevity of its characters, and the animals who represent the series like Tom Nook and Isabelle could use an overhaul. Besides villagers, the characters people meet during the course of the game like Blathers, the Able Sisters, and Kapp’n are important to keep players checking in every day. If these characters aren’t interesting to talk to multiple times over, the games would become boring and wouldn’t have the staying power needed to encourage players to make daily visits. Isabelle, the secretary and supervisor character present in New Horizons and New Leaf has been interesting to talk to but might have gotten too popular too quickly.
Isabelle is a character who got her start on the Nintendo 3DS with the mini-game-laden Animal Crossing: New Leaf and has become a mainstay of the series. She appears on the box for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and opens each play session with a report on the player’s village. Isabelle has even joined the main Nintendo roster through her inclusion in Super Smash Bros., meaning that Nintendo has positioned her as a top-tier mascot for the series despite being relatively new.

Isabelle has proven herself to be an important part of Animal Crossing’s atmosphere and gameplay, but it might be time to retire her for the time being. After two games and multiple appearances from her in other titles, some players may be looking for someone new to help them with their town.
