While there’s a wealth of boomer shooters on Steam at this time—Cultic to Boltgun, just to mention a few—Ultrakill is still in a category all of its own. This infamy has been underlined further still with Patch 14, which features Layer 7 of Hell itself.
Ultrakill is set in a post-apocalypse where human blood is the only currency that matters anymore, as it fuels the few robots that remain. Given this premise, it’s to be expected that the game’s narrative and level design would take some weird turns, but the seventh layer of Hell is particularly noteworthy. Featuring remarkably agile, powerful, and aggressive angelic statues as the first encounter of the new Act, Ultrakill‘s Patch 14 is a sight to behold.
As Ultrakill is still in Early Access, each and every one of its major patches also comes with substantial new chunks of content. The aptly titled VIOLENT NIGHT Patch 14, for example, introduces a whole new Act with Layer 7 of Hell featured within. This means that any players who might’ve temporarily dropped Ultrakill to wait until more content is released should now have plenty of stuff to do. Exploring Layer 7 is a heck of an experience from the get-go, and according to players, Ultrakill‘s Level 7 does not let up at any point.

Ultrakill‘s Patch 14 is an extremely promising showing that underscores some of the game’s most important and widely acclaimed features. A heck of a way to wrap up another year’s worth of active development, that’s for sure.
