Earlier this year, Xbox president Sarah Bond announced that a mobile store is in the works. Now, it looks like we’ll soon get an Xbox Android app with special features. By ‘almost’, I mean as early as next month. Wouldn’t that be exciting?
The Xbox mobile app will reportedly be available in November. Xbox players will be able to buy and play games directly from the app on Android. Sarah Bond shared the news on X today. She mentioned how the court’s recent ruling will now make the Google Play Store offer a wider range of options and increased flexibility.
In case you’re not in the know, the major case we’re talking about is Google’s four-year antitrust battle with Epic Games. The court ruling has asked Google to give rival third-party app stores access to the full catalogue of Google Play apps and distribute third-party stores for three whole years (from November 1st, 2024 to November 1st, 2027). That’s unless developers pull out individually.
Currently, there’s an Xbox app available on Android that lets you download games to your Xbox consoles. And for those with Game Pass Ultimate, stream games from the cloud. But from November, you’ll be able to directly purchase games through the app.
We’ll get a clearer picture of what Xbox is bringing to the table with their new app once November arrives. You can read more about the details in this CNBC article.
