Tomorrow is looking like a big day for trailers and announcements. Sony has just announced a new State of Play showcase, airing on September 14, 2023.
The Sony State of Play will air at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT. The announcement doesn’t confirm how long the show will last.
As for what to expect, Sony’s saying there will be a focus on updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles. It’s set to have indie, PlayStation VR2, and major upcoming third-party games in the show too.
Speculation can run rampant around this, so at the very least, it’s nice to just have a concentrated 24-hour window of it.
By the sounds of it, we’re going to be hearing about a set stable of known quantities. Looking back at recent State of Play showcases, it seems like we could catch anything from a Destiny 2 update or some Street Fighter 6 additions to, as Sony noted, some virtual reality.
Hopes might be set higher for some news on big third-party games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or Death Stranding 2. Time will tell, I suppose. I’m personally curious to know if we’ll hear anything on Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was pushed out of this year and into next.
Either way, it’ll be a packed news day tomorrow with a Nintendo Direct also airing in the morning. It’s like a little mini-E3 in September. And with Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, there’s likely even more news set to hit before the Fall season of games gets underway. Grab some popcorn and gear up for a stream-tastic showcase Thursday tomorrow.
