Unfortunately for PlayStation 5 gamers, Sony will not be releasing any major first-party games at the level of God of War Ragnarok orMarvel's Spider-Man 2 for this coming fiscal year. Sony has consistently delivered big budget, award-winning first-party exclusive games for its platforms, and they are a big reason why the company has enjoyed as much success as it has with the PS5 and its other systems over the years.
System-selling exclusives helped Sony dominate the last generation of consoles, with the PS4 home to a nice selection of exclusive games that, at the time, couldn't be played anywhere else. This is due to a variety of factors, like Sony deciding to release many first-party PS5 games as cross-gen titles also playable on PS4, and the higher production costs/development time associated with modern games.
Unfortunately, this has led to Sony not having any major first-party exclusive games to release for the PS5 this fiscal year, meaning fans shouldn't expect any such games before April 2025. As reported by IGN, Sony boss Hiroki Totoki said in a recent financial call, «Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games. But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.»

But while Sony's 2024 slate is looking thin when it comes to first-party exclusives, there are still PS5 exclusive games on the way for the platform thanks to third-party partners. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming on February 29, Rise of the Ronin's release date is March 22, and Stellar Blade will release as a PS5
