Sony's most recent endeavors in the gaming industry include major investments into the world of esports and the completed acquisition of Destiny 2 developer Bungie. Partnerships come frequently for Sony and the PlayStation brand, and a new licensing agreement sees new toys and merchandise become available for PlayStation's biggest intellectual properties.
In recent years, Sony bolstered its capabilities through the acquisitions of major development studios such as Firesprite, Bluepoint Games, and Haven Studios. Additionally, Sony invested into avenues outside of traditional game development such as esports and video streaming content. The acquisiton of Repeat.gg is the most recent purchase by Sony, and it's the second major esports purchase following the acquisition of EVO last year. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said the string of acquisitions is «not at all finished,» and the company is expected to make noteworthy partnerships between brands in the process.

Sony announced a licensing partnership with renowned toy maker Spin Master to create toys and merchandise for major IPs under the PlayStation umbrella. These PlayStation IPs include God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us, and Uncharted, according to Spin Master. The toy making company plans to create a variety of products such as action figures, collectibles, plushes, and RC vehicles. “Both SIE’s PlayStation and Spin Master share a common goal, to inspire and entertain consumers through the relentless pursuit of innovation," Spin Master CCO Chris Beardall said.
