Sony has announced Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, an officially licensed controller for playing games on iPhone.
Available now for $99.99 / £99.99, it’s inspired by the look and feel of PS5‘s DualSense wireless controller.
Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is powered by the user’s iPhone, meaning separate charging isn’t required, and it can connect directly to PS5’s Pulse 3D headset.
It can be used to play PS4 and PS5 games streamed via Remote Play, as well as App Store titles and other game streaming services that support controllers, including Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Mobile.
Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is available in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands and the UK at launch, with more countries to follow.
Earlier today Sony announced details of the latest PS5 system software beta test, which is rolling out today.
The headline feature is the introduction of support for 1440p HDMI video output, enabling players with compatible PC monitors and TVs to choose an additional visual setting when playing supported titles.
Another new feature is ‘Gamelists’, which are essentially folders designed to make organising games easier.
New social features include the ability for users to request that party members start Share Screen in order to watch their gameplay, and notifications telling players if another party member’s game is joinable. Players can join directly from these notifications.
In the Game Base card, players can also now send stickers and voice messages to their groups.
