Sonic Superstars is finally out and it comes with a free comic book skin DLC that lets you play as cel-shaded versions of the Blue Blur, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. Well... it did. The DLC was gone after 20 minutes, but Sonic fans were fittingly fast and managed to grab it in time to capture some footage.
Axanery shared a clip on YouTube and Twitter of cel-shaded Sonic running through one of the jungle-themed levels. The design is incredibly slick, so much so that some commenters have even expressed preferring it to the original. While it's no longer available, you can still view the page on Steam and add it to your wishlist.

Those who did get the DLC have shared mixed reactions. While the clips look fine, Sati commented, "Played with it on and it seems a bit buggy, characters turning black when doing an action". If the skins are unfinished, that would explain why the DLC was quickly pulled after launch. However, there may be another reason.
The console version of the game comes with the Comic Book Skin Pack on Amazon, so it was clearly intended to be available at launch. That doesn't explain the buggy visuals some claim to have run into, but it may be that the pack was pulled due to incorrect pricing rather than any glaring errors.
There's still DLC available to buy and download, like the Extra Content Pack with Rabbit and Mecha Sonic, modern Amy, the Lego trio, and Lego Sonic. Interestingly, Lego Sonic is the only one that's free. However, the Rabbit and Mecha Sonic skins were also originally free, whereas they are now $14.99.
