With the Neighborhood Stories update, players have noticed that some NPCs in The Sims 4 won't stop adopting dogs. Neighborhood Stories were added to The Sims 4 in November 2021, serving as a new way to expand upon life changes in Neighbor Sims, aka most NPCs, who live outside the player's active household. Developers stretched these changes across multiple updates, with the first affecting the lives of Sims directly connected to the player's main characters — gym friends and coworkers included.
The initial version of Neighborhood Stories allowed NPCs to begin making lifestyle adjustments. Neighbor Sims now have the ability to make career decisions, choose to have children, or accept a marriage proposal, for example. Active Sims impact these decisions by offering up certain suggestions, too. An Active Sim can belittle one NPC, which may lead to another reducing their relationship with the person a player bad-mouthed. Interestingly, the most recent Neighborhood Stories update for Sims 4 allows NPCs to invite new loved ones into their own homes by adopting kids and pets.

A March 2022 update for The Sims 4 unlocked Neighborhood Stories wherein Neighbor Sims can adopt kids and pets. It now seems as though a few NPCs may be a little over-eager about expanding their families. Reddit user Mitchxhell recently shared a post about how one Sim died and another immediately took in their three small children and dogs.
