Simon Pegg recently shared his thoughts on the competition between the Mission: Impossible and James Bond franchises. Pegg stars as Benji Dunn in the American spy film series centered on Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his exploits as a member of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF). Originally conceived as a television show in the 1960s, the Mission: Impossible saga was adapted for the big screen in 1996 with Brian De Palma's original Mission: Impossible, and was followed by five sequels over the better part of three decades. Two more sequels, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 and Dead Reckoning Part 2, are slated for release in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
James Bond has been a staple of the film industry for decades too, with the seductive spy debuting in 1962 with the classic thrillerDr. No. The franchise continued with 25 films and six different leading actors, spanning almost 70 years. Most recently, Daniel Craig concluded his five-film run in the James Bond franchise with No Time to Die. Although Craig's Bond is most assuredly dead, the iconic MI-6 agent is set to return to the big screen in the future with a reinvention of the character.
