Sequel Series For Meme Hit Megamind Reportedly In The Works

A sequel series to 2010's meme hit Megamind is reportedly in the works.

Despite not garnering much attention when it was first released, Will Ferrell's Megamind has become a cult meme classic over the years thanks to its weird character designs, dated jokes, and of course, Hal Stewart. These are all good things, I promise. Fans have called for a sequel for quite some time and it looks like they might be getting that wish somewhat.

As reported by Deadline, a Megamind sequel series, titled Megamind's Guide To Defending Your City, is currently in the works at Peacock in an attempt to "double down on its animated kids programming slate". The series will reportedly feature Megamind after he has saved the city in the original film and show him becoming a "superhero on the job".

The series looks to be going in a modern direction for the series, pushing Megamind as being "the world's first superhero influencer". Deadline reports that the series will still take place in Metro City and have the audience view everything that happens through Megamind's brainbots. The report doesn't state whether or not Will Ferrell will return to voice Megamind.

Deadline also reports that Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, the writers of the original Megamind, will be executive producers for the series alongside Eric Fogel, which should be encouraging for fans of the original film. JD Ryznar will serve as the co-executive producer and story editor.

Although Deadline's report gives a good idea of what to expect from the sequel series, it's not clear if the show will feature any other returning characters from the film, such as Metro Man or Hal Stewart. Here's hoping.
