Summer Game Fest gave us another look at Immortals of Aveum, the magical first person shooter coming from developer Ascendant Studios and publisher EA. Immortals of Aveum is out on 20th July.
Set in the world of Aveum, you play as an Immortal fighting in the Everwar. The war originates from when the people discovered magic, but could not agree on who would control it. Now, the Tyrant of Rasharn and their army has brought much of the world under their control, aside from Lucium. If Lucium loses the war it loses its access to magic, and the Tyrant will rule over all of Aveum.
It does rather sound like a magical take on Call of Duty, and the new gameplay trailer shows off one of the grandest setpieces in the game, as you clamber up the walkways around a towering construct, a Colossus, fighting to get to the control room.
Players will play as Jak who is known as a Triarch, someone who can control the three variants of magic, making them effective battlemages. Red magic acts like a shotgun, green like a machine gun, and blue like a rifle, but each will have its own variants within it. Alongside these abilities, battlemages like Jak can summon shields and manipulate the environment around them. As the power, and threats, build up around Jak he is able to cast an ultimate spell that can have devastating effects.
Immortals of Aveum will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
