Sea of Thieves is teasing its next chapter with a new mystery on the way this month. The team released a new teaser for the next mystery, “ The Hoarder's Hunt”, which will be out on May 11th.
The clip is just a minute long, and doesn't feature any gameplay, just artwork featuring two hands that slowly pans to reveal that those hands belong to a presumed puppetmaster type. The narration paints a sinister picture of what’s ahead, and it’s nothing strange for a game whose narrative has featured undead pirates, rituals to bring back the dead, and even the ability to support a faction and make your own pirate look skeletal.
“Held still for years. Cold to the Touch. An unjust punishment. Time without meaning. They think they understand. Turn the key and all will end for them.”
Those words are part of the narration on the teaser, and there’s definitely a creepiness to it as the puppet strings are revealed, and we see a pirate with a map and a compass, alongside a skeletal hand reaching up from the ground. Then we see another puppet pirate appear, this time with a hook for a hand on one side and a shovel in the other.
There’s a lot of teasing going on here, and as a mystery, surely it would be a good idea to be prepared to solve the clues once the update arrives and the story begins to unfold. Sea of Thieves, which recentlymarked its fifth anniversary, is going full speed ahead into another mysterious adventure, and inviting the community along.
Last year, Rare began to offer a series of limited-run narrative adventures and episodes, to expand the story and the options in Sea of Thieves. During those Adventures, a number of mysterious clues were solved. Looks like they’re all set to dive in deep once again next week.
