Neve Campbell has revealed her returning character, Sidney Prescott, will be the focus of ’s story.
Campbell last appeared in 2022’s Scream along with franchise mainstays Courtney Cox and David Arquette. However, she wasn’t in 2023’s Scream VI due to a pay dispute between her and Paramount Pictures. They came to an agreement on her starring in Scream 7 after the departure of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
With director Christopher Landon also exiting the slasher sequel, the deck was reshuffled, and Campbell’s series stalwart Sidney Prescott is not only back but once again front and center in a Scream movie.
Speaking to ET‘s Rachel Smith, Campbell revealed that the seventh installment will go back to basics and focus on Sidney Prescott, similar to Jamie Lee Curtis’ 2018 return to the Halloween franchise.
“We are going to follow Sidney,” Campbell told ET. ”They did pitch the concept to me, and it’s the reason that I jumped on board,”
Campbell then expressed her excitement at being back in the Scream franchise, saying, “I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of, I’m so grateful for them; I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would have lasted this many decades,”
Production on Scream 7 is set to begin this December. Regular Scream writer Kevin Williamson is on board as director for the latest entry. Williamson, dipped back into the slasher pool only recently with 2022’s pandemic horror movie Sick.
It’s unknown if Courtney Cox’s Gale Weathers or any other surviving legacy character will be joining Campbell’s Sidney Prescott for this one. However, when asked about the chance of a legacy reunion, Campbell offered a teasing ”may-haps” in response. Scream 3 character Mark Kincaid (played by Patrick Dempsey) has been rumored to return. In more recent entries, the character was revealed to be married to Sidney. Both actors have been intalks to return, but remain unconfirmed.
