Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is a lot less menacing in the blooper reel for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since releasing in theaters on May 6, Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange 2 has earned over $800 million worldwide, surpassing DC Films’ The Batman to become the highest-grossing film of 2022. The film saw director Sam Raimi make his grand return to the comic book genre alongside an all-star cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Xochitl Gomez in her MCU debut.
The second solo outing for Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange finds its titular sorcerer up against the Scarlet Witch. After holding the entire town of Westview hostage in a sitcom-esque reality in WandaVision, Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff has been corrupted by the Darkhold’s magic, which has only exacerbated her desire to be with her children. Therefore, Multiverse of Madness sees the Scarlet Witch hunt America Chavez in an attempt to steal her universe-jumping power and replace a variant version of herself in a universe where Billy and Tommy exist. In Raimi's horror-tinged film, Scarlet Witch lays siege to Kamar Taj and massacres Earth-838’s Illuminati, becoming the MCU's latest terrifying villain.
