Saturday Night First Look Teases Jason Reitman’s SNL 1975 Movie
The first look at has been revealed.
Vanity Fair has released new images for Saturday Night, Jason Reitman’s upcoming film about the events leading up to the opening night of Saturday Night Live in 1975. The film begins at 10 p.m. on October 11, 1975, and culminates with the first SNL broadcast.
“This is about not only the first seven actors, but the writers, the art department, and everybody who came together at the last second to change television,” Reitman told Vanity Fair. “What was so unusual about this show was not only that it was live, but the format was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before.”

Gabriel LaBelle stars as Lorne Michaels, the creator and producer of Saturday Night Live. The ensemble cast includes Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Kim Matula as Jane Curtin, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Nicholas Braun as Andy Kaufman/Jim Henson, Matthew Rhys as George Carlin,Jon Batiste as Billy Preston, J.K. Simmons as Milton Berle, and Willem Dafoe as David Tebet.
Reitman directs Saturday Night from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gil Kenan. Producers include Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, and Peter Rice.
The film was formerly titled SNL 1975 before switching to Saturday Night. The film coincides with SNL’s landmark 50th season. A three-hour special celebrating the iconic sketch show will air on NBC in February 2025.
Saturday Night arrives in theaters on October 11, 2024.
