Roland Emmerich’s latest blockbuster, Moonfall, has a stunning new IMAX poster. Over the years, the director, one of the highest grossing of all time, has become widely recognized for his science-fiction features, such as Independence Day,The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012. His upcoming disaster film, Moonfall, is one of the most expensive independent films ever made, with a production budget of $140 million. Moonfall is set to be released in theaters next month, and tracks two astronauts and a conspiracy theorist who must work together to avert catastrophe after an unknown force knocks the Moon from its orbit and sends it on a collision course with Earth.
Moonfall stars an impressive cast that includes Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, and Donald Sutherland. Its trailer hints that an alien entity might be involved with the Moon’s sudden change in orbit and that the film’s conspiracy theorist, played by Bradley, could be right about what the Earth’s satellite actually is. Ahead of its release, Emmerich discussed some of these ideas in further detail, mainly surrounding what the Moon in Moonfall really is, and the theory that it might not be real. Moonfall looks to explore this conspiracy theory concept further, with the trailer leaning into the 'fake Moon,' and official posters revealing a hollow Moon. Emmerich acknowledged the book «Who Built the Moon?» as an inspiration for the film's story. The director was interested in the idea that the Moon could, as he put it, be a «megastructure» built around a star. Emmerich said this would suggest potentially worse circumstances for the planet in the face of a collision with the Moon, and even more explosive action sequences for movie audiences to enjoy.
