After the divisive season 5, creator/star Justin Roiland says that Rick and Morty season 6 is a return to the show's original form. Roiland co-created the animated comedy series with Community creator Dan Harmon based on the former's Back to the Future parody short. Rick and Morty centers on the titular mad scientist and his grandson as they go on multiversal adventures with the help of his interdimensional portal gun and flying car, often to the chagrin of Rick's daughter Beth, son-in-law Jerry and granddaughter Summer.
Alongside Roiland, who voices both of the eponymous characters, the cast for Rick and Morty includes Sarah Chalke as Beth, Chris Parnell as Jerry and Spencer Grammer as Summer. Since its premiere on Adult Swim in 2013, the animated series has scored widespread critical acclaim, garnering two Primetime Emmy Award wins for Outstanding Animated Program, while also being a major ratings hit for the network and spawning a multimedia franchise. Despite its major fan following, some have taken issue with recent Rick and Morty seasons, including the creatives behind the show itself, though the latter are promising a better future for the show.
