Hardcore Resident Evil fans were keen to scoop up the collector's edition of the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake, which costs $250 and includes a statue of protagonist Leon. However, it seems that this GameStop-exclusive item may have run into some serious difficulties, as GameStop has announced that all in-store preorders for the game are canceled.
If you pre-ordered Resident Evil 4 Collector's Edition IN-STORE at GameStop — they just issued a memo stating the CE won't arrive in stores and will not be fulfilled/arriving. Does not mention anything about online orders, so I assume online orders are not affected pic.twitter.com/KUMg4pVdh7
Twitter deals guru Wario64 was one of the first to announce the news online, and it didn't take long for affected fans to vent their anger online on platforms like Reddit. Apparent GameStop employees also expressed frustration with the move. «I’m done pushing preorders,» one wrote. «Company is constantly screwing us over and now I’m going to have to deal with this and very pissed customers.»
Some Redditors are also saying that their online orders have been canceled as well, though the extent of that has not been established. At this point, it's not clear what caused this issue in the first place, but it's not the first time that GameStop has struggled with a preorder crisis.
Last September, Kotaku reported that the retailer's database and inventory system suffered a number of major issues that caused locations to have incorrect information about what games would be available when, which triggered a lot of headaches for GameStop staff. If you're a Resident Evil 4 fan in this position, the good news is that the game's demo is rumored to debut very soon.
