Update: 24 hours later, LEGO 2K Drive is now official. It's out for PS5 and PS4 on 19th May 2023, and you can catch the official reveal trailer above.
Original story: LEGO 2K Drive is doomed to a lifetime of leaks it seems, as IGN has accidentally hit accelerate on the game’s announcement article, 24 hours ahead of its intended publication. This follows a series of leaks earlier in the week, which forced the Danish toy manufacturer to come out and confirm the project’s existence.
The good news is that the game sounds great. Due out on 19th May for PS5 and PS4, it’s being billed as a “AAA driving adventure game”, with award-winning NBA 2K developer Visual Concepts at the helm. The screenshots scream Forza Horizon, but obviously the big twist here is that there’ll be a complete customisation system, allowing you to build vehicles with over 1,000 different LEGO bricks.
There’ll also be licensed cars at launch, like the McLaren Solus GT, and the title will be supported post-release with a Drive Pass. This will be spread across four post-release seasons, each with new vehicles and themes. You’ll get automatic access to it as part of the Awesome Edition ($99.99) and Awesome Rivals Edition ($119.99). These will be your other purchase options at launch:
Pre-orders will also come with the Aquadirt Racer Pack, which includes a new Street Car, Off-Road Car, and Racer Boat. And yes, this will be a multi-discipline racer, with single player and online multiplayer options, as well as local split-screen. Obviously, we still need to wait for the full reveal, but this is shaping up spectacularly in our opinion.
