A beefed up version of the PlayStation 5 could be coming sooner than many might've expected, especially as stocks of the PS5 continue to be scarce, but according to an in-depth report we could expect the PS5 Pro to arrive as early as late 2023.
The report comes from RedGamingTech, which analyses trends and are fairly reliable trackers of AMD tech, upon which the PS5's CPU relies. In a lengthy analysis RGT concluded that a PS5 Pro is in development and is set for either a late 2023 or early-to-mid 2024 release (thanks, GamesRadar).

This schedule would line up with Sony's three-year window between the launch of the PS4 and PS4 Pro, but as supply chain issues continue to affect PS5 production Sony may consider a revision to their timelines. Although a PS5 Pro may not be top of the list for many console gamers considering a significant number are still waiting to get their hands on the original iteration, console production plans are often made years ahead of time. The capacity and components for a potential PS5 Pro would've been mapped out by Sony, but due to the state of global chip supplies console production has been an issue for not only Sony but also for Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.
But how powerful could a PS5 Pro be? According to RGT, the beefed up console could potentially deliver around double the performance of the base PS5 in standard mode, meaning twice the speed, while with ray-tracing on the gap could be as large as 2.5x. Looking ahead, Sony is said to be emphasising ray-tracing and advanced rendering techniques.
