Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is getting a re-release on consoles and PC next year, courtesy of Aspyr.
The 2000 game, which was originally released on the PS1 before coming to Dreamcast later that year, is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS5 and Steam on January 23, 2025 at a price of $19.99 / £15.99.
The original game featured five playable characters with up to four unlockable ones (depending on format), but the new re-release promises “13 newly unlocked playable characters” which Aspyr says are “beyond the original line-up”, including the Rifle Droid, Staff Tusken Raider, Ishi Tib and Weequay.
All secret characters and levels will be unlocked from the beginning, and the couch co-op mode from the original game returns too.
Gameplay improvements include enhancements to the character models and environments, as well as “smoother jumps, better balance and new main menu art”.
The Versus and Training modes from the Dreamcast version of the game will be added too, as well as a new lightsaber colour toggle.
The original game gave some characters the wrong colour of lightsaber, and the new toggle will let players fix this should they wish. For example, Mace Windu’s lightsaber in the game is blue, but players can now change it back to its movie-accurate purple.
Jedi Power Battles is the latest in a series of older Star Wars games being re-released by Aspyr. Previous releases included Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Republic Commando and Star Wars: The Force Unleased.
