Sony has been releasing details ever so slowly about PlayStation VR2, its next generation virtual reality headset. President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment and certified cat lover Jim Ryan recently divulged yet another nugget of information about PS VR2 at a business briefing, saying it will have over 20 “major” launch games.
“Right now, there is a considerable amount of money being spent on partnerships with independent and other third-party developers to secure a considerable pipeline of attractive VR content at the launch of PlayStation VR2,” said Ryan.
According to Ryan’s presentation, over 20 first and third-party games will be available at the platform’s launch, which is a fairly significant number of titles. PS VR launched with 31 games in 2016 and had many more in the following months.
It’s unknown what these launch games will be, as Sony has only revealed one title for the headset so far — — and it hasn’t been 100% confirmed that it will come out alongside the headset. The game will see franchise developer Guerrilla Game team with new Sony stablemate Firesprite out of the U.K. The game is a PS VR2 exclusive, but not much else is known outside of the fact that it will expand on ‘s imaginative world.
PS VR2’s games will be more in line with other high-end virtual reality solutions, trading in the dated Move controllers for a more traditional glove-like handle that Sony calls the Sense controller. The headset will also have a near-4K resolution per eye along with HDR, which is a significant update over the PlayStation 4 iteration of the tech.
Sony is still keeping many PS VR2 details close to its chest. It currently has no price or release date, and it is still unknown what the rest of its launch lineup
