Sony has been teasing gamers with details of the upcoming PS VR2, as the revealed hardware specs have shown that PS VR2 will likely be a game-changer. It will sport an OLED display featuring 2000x2040 panel resolution per eye, adjustable lenses, and approximately 110 degrees field of view. The device will also include a built-in motor with vibrations that mimic in-game sensations to increase immersion. For the benefit of PS5 owners, PS VR2 headsets have also been designed to visually pair up nicely with their console counterparts.
Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and president Jim Ryan gave an investor presentation where he provided a glimpse into the current performance of Sony's gaming division and the company's plans for the future. During the presentation, he highlighted how PlayStation has expanded thanks to the success of the PS5 and the company's constant acquisitions which have raised the number of its first-party studios. He also shed light on the anticipated launch of PS VR2 as well as what gamers can expect and, fortunately, there are plenty of reasons to be excited.
Understanding the PlayStation VR2's Design Philosophy
During the presentation, PS VR2's previously revealed hardware specs were confirmed, which include 4K HDR, enhanced controls tracking, and foveated rendering, a process that optimizes efficiency by using an eye tracker to increase image resolution where the wearer is looking and reduce image resolution in the player's peripheral vision. PS VR2 will also be more convenient to use than its predecessor thanks to its single-cord setup.
