iPhone 14 Pro is shaping up to be a mega upgrade over the iPhone 13 Pro series this year. Rumours and leaks have already revealed a lot about this iPhone meant for the rich ones – new camera upgrades, a new display with more tricks, more powerful chip, and maybe a few things more. Ahead of the iPhone 14 launch though, Apple almost previewed some of the features in the iOS 16 revelation, which is also expected to debut just after the iPhone 14 goes on sale. Those lockscreen widgets could make it to the Always On Display functionality too.
Coming from the latest newsletter penned down by Apple leak Guru Mark Gurman, it is said that the iPhone 14 Pro series with its Always On Display will have new UI elements to accommodate the widgets. “Like the Apple Watch, the iPhone 14 Pro will be able to show widgets displaying weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate. And there will be a setting also like the Apple Watch that keeps sensitive data from appearing on the lock screen for all to see,” he says.
Hence, it is likely that the lockscreen elements previewed at the WWDC will be a part of the Always On Display feature. This isn’t a new thing considering that Samsung also carries over lockscreen elements to the AOD on its Galaxy smartphones. However, the widgets previewed on iOS 16 seem to be better designed and more helpful. Hence, those fancy typefaces for the lock and your widget designs could stay on the screen in a minimalist form.
Gurman also shed light on the other leaks related to the iPhone 14 series. The iPhone 14 Pro will have an updated 48MP main rear camera, a faster A16 chip, and the new pill shaped display cutout for holding the True Depth camera
