This week, Sony launched its revamp of its PlayStation Plus service, offering three subscription tiers and a stockpile of new games ready to play for early adopters of the service. Among its catalog of first and third-party titles,PlayStation Plus also offers limited-time trials of new games, all of which include trophy support.
Sony’s revamped PS Plus aims to compete with Xbox Game Pass, which offers a wide variety of AAA and indie games along with day-one access to first-party Microsoft titles. PS Plus Essential is the basic service tier and retains all the PS Plus features that fans have enjoyed for some time now. PS Plus Extra steps it up with access to Sony’s game catalog, featuring hundreds of titles across PS4 and PS5. PS Plus Premium is the highest-priced option and introduces the Classics Catalog, cloud streaming, and game trials.
PS Plus Extra and Premium Are Losing a Major Game
While Sony isn’t taking the same initiative as Microsoft and allowing PS Plus subscribers to have day-one access to Sony exclusives, its game trial service is a nice perk to have before making a purchase. Subscribers of PS Plus Premium should note that these trials are the full game and not demos made exclusive for the service. Additionally, PlayStation Plus’ free game trials will allow players to unlock trophies that will carry over to the full game should players decide to purchase it once the demo expires. Trophy hunters and speed runners are likely to do everything they can to collect as many trophies as possible before their time is up.
Most of the game trials listed above will last for two hours of playtime starting when players launch the game. However, some games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon Forbidden West feature extended demos
