Remember Project Mugen, the upcoming urban open-world RPG getting developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? Well, firstly, Project Mugen has officially gone through a name change and is now called Ananta.
This RPG was first announced way back in August 2023 at Gamescom. And after what felt like forever with zero updates, they’ve finally dropped a new trailer. Apparently, they have more scoop coming up on December 5th. But until then, check out the official trailer of Project Mugen/Ananta.
The devs haven’t said anything about it yet. Speaking of the name, Ananta means infinite in Sanskrit, which is kind of fitting because Mugen also means infinite. The Chinese name also backs this up.
Now, the gaming community, however, is split on the name change. But everyone is relieved that at least the project isn’t six feet under.
Meanwhile, players are already drawing comparisons between Ananta and the other upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness by Hotta Studio. Ananta’s new trailer is slick, but it doesn’t give us a single second of gameplay.
So, for many players, Neverness to Everness still has the edge. But I personally think that Project Mugen/Ananta looks visually more appealing.
Ironically, Team Project Mugen has deleted all their original social accounts, including a YouTube channel with over 100k subscribers and videos that had hit millions of views.
They did keep the Discord and just renamed it, but for everything else, they started fresh. That has left many gamers confused since they could have just renamed the existing accounts.
In Project Mugen or Ananta, you play as an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tasked with dealing with paranormal chaos. The game’s lineup includes characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika and Dila.
