Get ready to take a stroll down Charizard Lane. A new housing development just outside Las Vegas has named a handful of streets after popular Pokemon characters. Yes, you read that right, Pokemon-themed streets. People will soon be living on streets like Jigglypuff Place and Squirtle Lane. Just imagine explaining that address on your driver’s license the next time you get carded.
These comically cute street names were the idea of Andrea Miller, the construction administration manager for Harmony homes in Nevada. In an interview with CBC about the Poke-streets, she explains that the idea originated from her sons. As she tried to find names for the roads in her latest housing development, she would bounce ideas off her kids. Eventually, her eldest suggested using Pokemon and the rest is history.

Luckily, Pokemon was seeing a big resurgence in popularity at the time. Thanks in large part to the mobile Pokemon Go game. Together with her sons, Miller would go through the list of Pokemon from the app to use as street names. However, there was one Pokemon that was not considered: Pikachu. As Miller puts it, she didn’t want the names to be immediately recognizable as Pokemon, so the most well-known creature was off the list. Still, I think it will be hard not to mention you live on Jigglypuff Place or Squirtle Lane and people do not know what those names come from.
