Traditionally, Pokémon games have always had a camera following the player from a top-down or third-person perspective. The only exception to this would be the Pokémon Snap games, in which players take pictures of roaming Pokémon in the wild. New Pokémon Snap is praised for how beautiful the game looks, and its first-person perspective especially highlights this. The game serves to demonstrate how a different perspective can change how a game’s world is seen, and how it can provide new immersion for the player.

The new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer, uploaded by the Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel, showcases the Trainer running through the Hisui region from a first-person perspective. It then transitions into the Trainer experiencing this perspective through rideable Pokémon such as Wyrdeer, Hisuian Braviary, and Basculegion, taking the player across the lush lands and soaring through the skies. The way the perspective is presented in the trailer highlights the world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and teases what a full first-person monster-catching adventure could look like.
