The long-running Pokemon franchise is set to enter its ninth generation of main series games later this year with the recently announced Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. So far, fans know little about the games, save the names and appearances of the three starter Pokemon and the fact that the new region is based on Spain. Unfortunately, with such little information out there, many online sources are spreading false rumors and «leaks» about the content of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Fans' response to these «leaks» has been a mix of amusement and frustration, with some wishing the fake leaks would be real.
Many fake leaks and rumors regarding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have revolved around either possible starter evolutions or the concept of regional forms. Regional forms, which serve as a way to visually redesign and re-imagine Pokemon from earlier generations, typically feature an element unique to that region, such as Exeggutor appearing taller and more palm tree-like in Alola and Galar's version of Weezing gaining a top hat. Previous leaks suggested regional forms for a number of Pokemon from the second and third generations including Whiscash, Quagsire, and Swampert.
