Sony has unveiled the games that are joining the Extra/Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus for the month of June. They are… some games.
If you were hoping that this would be the month that Sony would increase the classic titles available in their digital catalog, I’ve got some bad news for you. They have two PS1 titles on offer: Worms and Herc’s Adventures. This is alongside the PSP’s Killzone: Liberation. I mean, those games are something. They’re not nothing. You might consider Herc’s Adventures a hidden gem if you’re being generous.
Here’s a list of the games they’re headlining because they think no one cares about older titles:
Again, those games aren’t nothing. I’m not really floored by anything, but they are definitely games… These join some other Playstation Plus Extra/Premium titles that Sony is choosing not to give much attention to, like MX Vs ATV Legends, Paw Patrol Mighty Pups: Save Adventure Bay, and My Friend Peppa Pig. There’s also 2014’s Thief, which was widely considered to be a disappointing follow-up to the classic games.
When Sony rolled out their PlayStation Plus Extra and Premier tiers, I was kind of hopeful that they’d take a nice, well-rounded approach to providing value, and they’ve really failed there. Is it really so much to ask that the PS1 classics that were available on PS3 get ported over? I feel like I’ve been lowering my expectations for the PlayStation platforms frequently over the last decade, and Sony still manages to disappoint. I’ve just come to expect it from them.
In terms of celebrating this baffling commitment to mediocrity, Sony is also offering some more giveaways. These are in the form of avatars and wallpapers, so don’t get too excited. All the details are here on their blog.
