On Sunday, Terminal A of Logan International Airport in Boston was evacuated after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents suspected a "degraded" PlayStation console could be a bomb.
As The Hill reports, the console was viewed as a suspicious object with seemingly good reason. Dave Procopio, spokesperson for Massachusetts State Police (MSP), explained, "The condition of the console caused abnormalities in the image produced when it was x-rayed, prompting the screeners’ concern. During the investigation of the object and secondary sweeps of the area, passengers in Terminal A were evacuated."
As the tweet above shows, large queues formed at the airport as people attempted to get out of Terminal A after being told it was "mandatory" to leave immediately. Some passengers had to evacuate the aircraft they had just boarded. Meanwhile the MSP bomb squad was called in to determine if the object was a threat. They found no explosives, just an old and very degraded piece of gaming hardware.
We don't know which PlayStation console was contained in the passenger's bag being scanned, or just how degraded its condition was. It must be in pretty bad shape to cause the x-ray machine to show abnormalities and for TSA agents to not recognize it, though. As it was being carried around, we can't rule out that this may end up being a PlayStation Vita or even an old PSP handheld.
