It looks like PlayStation has formed a new team dedicated to game preservation.
As spotted by VGC, a spate of social media posts indicate the nascent division will focus on preserving PlayStation franchises to "ensure our industry's history isn't forgotten."
In a post on Twitter, PlayStation's new senior build engineer Garrett Fredley said he'd be joining the "newly created preservation team" as one of its initial hires.
Elaborating on Linkedin, Fredley explained he'd been hired by PlayStation Studios QA manager Mike Bishop, who in a separate post shared three months ago said PlayStation was eager to ramp up its preservation efforts.
"We have a really interesting, exciting, and unique technical opportunity within the team right now - the day-to-day focus is on IP Preservation for the business, ensuring the titles of today are captured, catalogued and secured for the games industry of tomorrow," wrote Bishop earlier this year.
The news comes shortly after Sony announced its expanded PlayStation Plus offering will grant Premium tier subscribers access to a catalog of "beloved classic games."
Game Developer has reached out to PlayStation for more information on the new team.
