However, this happens from a different lens, both in terms of narrative and gameplay, as the new title offers a fresh dive into the critically acclaimed game. is set during the same period as the original title, but tells an alternate story and, curiously, leans deeply into the teachings left behind by Ubisoft and Nintendo’s .
had the opportunity to go hands-on with ahead of its release. The tests were conducted at Sega’s booth during Brazil Game Show (BGS) 2023. The title was also made available to the public. As a tactical RPG, most of the instances of gameplay are set on preestablished maps with a grid. However, the grid is made less apparent and less restricting, a feat achieved by giving characters free movement within small areas around them – a neat trick that Atlus seems to have learned with in 2022.
This type of map structure and character movement combined is not exactly new, but was evidently well executed by, which seems to have left a mark on after being critically acclaimed. Being able to move around freely in areas rather than being fixed to a square-based grid grants players a better sense of leeway when developing strategies to deal with opponents, while also retaining the tactical value of the title. Albeit small, this detail is integral to how much more receptive will be, especially for players who are not traditionally fans of tactical RPGs.
