Author Rick Riordan provides an update on the casting process for the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ show. Based on Riordan's best-selling book series of the same name, the epic fantasy series, which takes place in the world of Greek mythology, tells the story of Percy Jackson, a young demi-god who embarks on a quest to stop a war between gods. The book series has already been adapted into two movies in 2010 and 2013, respectively, but both failed to strike a chord with fans of the books due to a number of significant departures from Riordan's novels.
It was announced earlier this year that another adaptation was in the works, this time in the form of a series for Disney+. With Riordan more closely involved this time (he will co-write the pilot and act as executive producer), the series promises to be a more faithful adaptation of the source material. Riordan himself has acknowledged that fans did not love the two Percy Jackson and the Olympians movie adaptations and has previously written that he "owed it to the fans to try one more time."

According to Riordan, he and his wife spent the Super Bowl weekend at Disney Studios watching different combinations of young actors take part in "chemistry reads" for the central roles of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. He says that, while the process is "moving along well," no decisions have been made just yet. Check out Riordan's full comment on the casting process below:
