Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian-born bodybuilder, actor, and former politician has made an emotional plea to Russian soldiers in Ukraine. As an actor, Schwarzenegger is known across the world for his roles in major action blockbusters such as the Terminator film series, Total Recall and Predator. Following a lengthy and ongoing career as a Hollywood star, Schwarzenegger stepped into American politics serving as the Governor of California between 2003 and 2011.
Though Schwarzenegger’s time in office ended over a decade ago, he has maintained a presence in politics and has even considered a run for president. Currently, the political focus across the world is trained firmly on Eastern Europe, where Ukraine has been facing a Russian invasion for over three weeks. The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, and has resulted in the largest conflict in Europe since the end of World War II. Despite estimates that Russian losses are already in the tens of thousands, and over three million Ukranian refugees having fled the country due to the invasion, many Russian civilians remain largely unaware of the on-the-ground details of the Ukraine invasion. This is partly a result of the Russian government’s control over the country's media, and ongoing pro-Russian propaganda.
