Paramount is setting and changing up some of its 2025 release dates. They’ve also confirmed the release date for the Glen Powell-led The Running Man.
In the biggest news of the changes, The Running Man will now premiere on November 21, 2025, where it will presumably go up against Wicked: Part Two in one of the busier times of the holiday season.
The film will be directed by Edgar Wright, from a script written by Michael Bacall. Nothing is known about the film as of now, but it will be a new adaptation of the classic 1982 novel of the same by Stephen King, which itself was turned into a movie in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Alongside The Running Man remake, Paramount has changed the release dates for a variety of movies, with things beginning in 2024, when their film September 5 moves to a November 29, 2024 limited release before a wider release on December 13, 2024. The film was previously set to release on November 27, but will be pushed back just a bit.
Elsewhere on the calendar, the horror movie Vicious, directed by Bryan Bertino, is now moving up from August 8, 2025, to February 28, 2025. That film stars Dakota Fanning, Kathryn Hunter, Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, Devyn Nekoda, and more, and follows the story of a woman who goes through an existential crisis after receiving a gift from a stranger.
The Smurfs Movie is also getting a release date shift, where it moves from February 14 to June 18, 2025. The film is directed by Chris Miller from a script by Pam Brady, and features an all-star ensemble that includes Rihanna, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, and Xolo Maridueña with Kurt Russell and John Goodman.
Finally, the Naked Gun remake starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson is also being pushed back a bit, from July 18 to August 1, 2025. A full list of changes to Paramount’s calendar can be seen below:
