Palworld has got off to a ridiculously good start. Pocketpair’s monster-catching survival game launched in early access just a handful of days ago, and within eight hours of release, it had sold over 1 million copies. Before the day was out, it had doubled that number, and momentum, it seems, hasn’t slowed down.
Taking to Twitter, Pocketpair recently announced that Palworld has sold over 3 million units, within just 40 hours of launch. To give you an idea of how impressive its sales are, the survival game is roughly keeping pace with the initial sales of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which became PlayStation Studios’ biggest launch ever at 2.5 million copies sold in 24 hours.
Of course, the difference here is that while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a $70 game, Palworld currently costs $30 in its early access period. Then again, the fact that it’s managing to hit the sales numbers it’s hitting in spite of also being available via Game Pass makes its performance that much more impressive.
Additionally, as you’d expect, the game’s success is being reflected in its concurrent user numbers as well. Palworld recently surpassed 1 million concurrent players on Steam, as per SteamDB, and at the time of writing, has more players playing it than any other game on the platform. It has also climbed up to No. 6 in the all-time concurrent user peak charts, surpassing the likes of Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Apex Legends. Next in its sights at No. 5 is Cyberpunk 2077.
In our review of the game’s early access version, we gave it a score of 7/10, saying, “Palworld is equal parts charming and dark, with a massive world and no restrictions on exploration. Combat needs some fine-tuning and the survival crafting may not be for everyone, but it’s early access release is a solid starting point.” Read the full review through here.
Palworld is currently available in early access on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
