Nightingale Is Playable On Steam Deck, But Not "Officially Supported" Yet
If you want your Realm-traveling survival game for your own travels, you’re a little lucky. In a post about pre-launch updates for Nightingale, the “gaslamp fantasy” survival game releasing its Early Access on February 20th, the developers at Inflexion Games answered a common question for many Steam users: Will this play on the Steam Deck? The answer is yes and no.
The developers explain that the Steam Deck can technically run Nightingale, meaning you can boot it up if you decide that you want to give it a whirl. Still, they haven’t particularly optimized the software for it yet, so they aren’t officially considering it to be an official Steam Deck release yet. This means that it won’t be considered for direct customer support, as players for official platforms would be.
In addition, controller players will have an issue where some keyboard and mouse input is needed at the moment, so Steam Deck would have similar issues upon launch.
However, the Nightingale team does say it’s working on official Steam Deck support down the line. If you do boot it up on Valve’s high-octane portable advice, the devs explain that any bugs should be reported to them, so long as you note that you’re using Steam Deck.
Steam Deck players have rarely been discouraged by lack of official support, as one Final Fantasy 14 player cleared The Omega Protocol, the latest Ultimate-level content, on the device. Anything is possible on the Steam Deck with baseline compatibility and some persistence.
The update post also included a number of smaller updates to the game, including the HUD, removing AMD FSR3 support due to bugs, and other small UI changes.
