Ozark Creator Details The Byrde Family's Future Five Years After Finale
Ozark creator Chris Mundy details what becomes of the Byrde family and what their future looks like 5 years after the finale. First released on Netflix in 2017, Ozark quickly became a hit for the streamer, following the criminal exploits of money launderer Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and his attempts to keep his family safe from ruthless Mexican drug cartels. The Emmy-winning show was popular with both audiences and critics, with many praising the writing, performances, and tone. Ozark concluded earlier this year with its fourth and final season.
Although many predicted that at least one of the Byrde family members would die before the conclusion of Ozark season 4 part 2, the finale saw Marty, his wife, Wendy (Laura Linney), and their 2 children survive. In a shocking ending, private investigator Mel Sattem (Adam Rothenberg) finally finds the evidence he needs to put Marty and Wendy in jail but, in a surprise twist, Jonah (Skyler Gaertner) shoots him before the screen cuts to black. For now, Ozark is definitively over, but Bateman did previously express his willingness to reprise his role as Marty for a film or series later down the line.

In a new Netflix promotional event, as reported by IndieWire, Mundy details what the future looks like for Marty and the rest of the Byrde family, 5 years after the events of the finale. Mundy explains that he thinks the Byrde family will have moved out of the Ozarks and gone to the Midwest, where they will continue to use their political influence, but now on a national scale.
