For the longest time, Overwatch fans have been putting up with Blizzard's shenanigans regarding monetization and a fairly unecessary sequel because of the promise that a fully fleshed out PvE mode was around the corner. It was going to include fully reworked characters, separate progression, and talent trees, but Blizzard has now announced that it "can't deliver" on these promises. This mode has now been cancelled in favor of smaller, seasonal Story Missions, and Overwatch 2 players are as furious as you're probably expecting.
You don't have to scroll through social media for very long to find countless videos and tweets of Overwatch fans voicing their displeasure, with Overwatch 2 currently trending on Twitter at the time of writing. There are loads of people sharing screenshots and videos of the skill trees and gameplay that Blizzard showed off back in 2019, severely disappointed that none of it is going to see the light of day.

Then you have the angrier Overwatch fans. You'll find plenty of them claiming that this is the final straw and threatening to uninstall the game for good, especially now that the promised PvE mode everyone was sticking around for will never come. There's also quite a large amount of fans furious that Overwatch 2 exists at all now, as the lack of a meaningful PvE mode has fans questioning why the original game was shut down in favor of a sequel in the first place.
It'll be interesting to see if Overwatch 2 can recover from this, given that the majority of fans were already hovering over the uninstall button due to a variety of monetization issues and lackluster seasonal updates. It's difficult to imagine player numbers dropping too
