In a surprise announcement by Marvel Comics, the son of the original Captain Marvel will be getting a brand new series. Genis-Vell, the son of the original Captain Marvel Mar-Vell, has long been a fan-favorite character. With his recent reemergence, there's never been a better time for Marvel to further explore Genis-Vell by giving him his own limited series.
Created by Ron Marz and Joe Phillips in the pages of Silver Surfer Annual #6, Genis would eventually assume the mantle of his father as the third Captain Marvel during the much-beloved miniseries Avengers Forever. However, it wouldn't be until Peter David picked up the character with an ongoing series starting in 2000 that Genis would begin to really shine. The series saw Genis partnered with his father's old friend and Hulk's original sidekick Rick Jones as he battled cosmic threats as well as his own tenuous grasp on reality thanks to his «Cosmic Awareness» powers. In the recent Captain Marvel arc «The Last of the Marvels»,current Captain Marvel titleholder Carol Danvers finds Genis-Vell alive among the captives of the villain Vox Supreme. Looking like his Legacy days, Genis isn't especially clear what his own name is when Carol approaches. The circumstances behind his return and amnesia have yet to be revealed.
